Foundations is a seasonal invitation-only online fair curated by Artsy, spotlighting fresh works from tastemaking galleries.
This exhibition showcases the distinctive approaches of two contemporary artists, Daisy Craddock and Sandy Litchfield -- each with a unique perspective on rendering the vivacity and intricacy of nature. Craddock delves into the micro, capturing the lush and detailed color and texture of flower petals through close-up examinations. Her works are characterized by a richly textured surface, composed of robustly applied oil pastel, creating a tactile and vibrant visual experience. On the other hand, Litchfield adopts a broader perspective, engaging en plein air to compose dynamic and impressionistic landscapes. Her use of colored pencil and gouache yields scenes brimming with energy, illuminated by light and defined by expressive lines. Together, these artists present contrasting yet complementary views of nature's splendor, inviting viewers into a dialogue between the macro and the micro, the energetic and the intricate.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Dasiy Craddock
Dasiy Craddock’s (b.1949, Memphis, TN) signature style highlights the textural and structural details of her subjects, even when it abstracts them. Her work is rooted in the traditions of plein air landscape painting, where she often reduces her subjects to the most basic elements of form and color. Craddock's work has been exhibited widely throughout the United States and reviewed in Art in America, The New York Times, Art & Antiques, American Artist, Art News, and Arts Magazine among numerous other publications. Public collections include the Anderson Museum, Newark Museum, Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, Georgia Museum of Art, the Milwaukee Museum of Art, Ogden Museum of Southern Art, Roswell Museum, Rubin Museum of Art, and the Weatherspoon Art Museum.
Sandy Litchfield
Lakeside vistas, ocean waves and quiet countryside offer personal moments from Sandy Litchfield’s (b. 1966, New York City) life in Amherst, Massachusetts, the Adirondacks and sailing near Martha’s Vineyard and the Elizabeth Islands. Some of these landscapes are pushed to abstraction while others retain a foothold in direct observation. She received her BFA from the University of Colorado and her MFA from UMass Amherst. She also attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Her work has been recognized with numerous grants and public commissions and has exhibited in many museums including the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, The Fitchburg Art Museum, The Portland Art Museum and The Hunterdon Museum. Her exhibitions have been selected for review by The Brooklyn Rail, The Boston Phoenix, New American Paintings, Art New England and The Boston Globe.
