KATHY MOSS

Kathy Moss lives and works in Beacon, New York. A formal painter deeply engaged with material, scale, surface, and composition, Moss is known for botanically inspired works that use flowers, seed pods, pinecones, and thistles as symbolic stand-ins for the figure. She prepares her own gesso and painting medium using techniques developed during her studies at The New York Studio School, where she was a Merit Scholar for Painting. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States and is held in public and corporate collections including the U.S. Department of State, Saks Fifth Avenue, General Electric, The Equitable Collection, and the Carlyle Hotel in New York.

“In my practice art is a wordless thing, deeper than words can convey. I am drawn to painting because I believe it is the deepest thing I can do. I just want to make something beautiful, something evocative, something not overtly narrative. My goal is to make art that is transcendent, poetic, mysterious, that draws the viewer in and invites them to have their own experience.”   - Kathy Moss
